About MOTE
MOTE was founded in 1995 by Dr. David M.
Walden, aka "Chappy Dave" under the name San Diego Christian
Center. In June of
2004 we were renamed to MOTE and became an approved 501(c)3
non-profit Christian organization. MOTE International (Fundacion
MOTE Dominicana Inc.) was founded in 2008 to include MOTE's evolving
ministries in the Dominican Republic.
As CEO of MOTE, Inc., Chappy Dave oversees a
Lay Chaplaincy Training Program for state hospitals and convalescent
facilities; faith-based After-School Home-work Clubs; Inner-city
Christian Sober Living Facility for Men; Homeless Feeding Program;
and a Cross-Culture Prison Ministry Programs in
Tijuana,
Ensenada, and Tecate, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
Our purpose is to model and equip believers to
step out of their church walls and comfort zone to reach out to
people in the world, identify with their needs, build trust, and be
a witness. We practice this with our own ministries, by
speaking in churches and conferences around the world, and by
holding a variety of workshops for believers who are ready to be
blessed by stepping out to the edge in faith and service.
Having had a personal "wipeout" experience,
Chappy Dave knows exactly what it is like to be "on the edge." It
was out of his experience that he came to know and love the Lord and
developed a personal passion for ministering to people on the edge.

About Chappy
Dr. David M. “Chappy” Walden was born in San Diego and began surfing in the late
fifties. He is a surfer to this day and loves the sport and the
ocean. His professional career for the first twenty years took
him on a path of entrepreneurial business development as founder and
CEO of Orange County’s 2nd largest tax and financial organization
with seven corporations dealing in tax planning, finance, real
estate, property management, securities, film and television
production.
In 1983 he became a follower of Jesus of
Nazareth through faith in Christ and his calling to serve God led to
a full time commitment. His faith journey started in children’s
ministry at North Coast Calvary Chapel in Carlsbad,
California. The discipling he received and the devoted Christian mentors who came alongside of him
led him into various ministry roles inside the church walls as well
as out into local community and across the borders.
He returned to college and successfully
completed a Bachelors degree in Theology in 1995 from
Calvary
Bible College
(BTh), a Masters in Divinity (M.Div.) in 1999 from Bethel
Theological Seminary,
San Diego, and in 2005 he earned his Doctorate in
Organizational Systems from Bethel University,
St. Paul, Minnesota
(D.Min.).
He was ordained to the pastorate by the elders
of Calvary Chapel Poway and ordained by the BGC (Baptist General
Conference) Rancho Bernardo Baptist church. Dr. Walden has been a
staff pastor over the last twenty-two years serving as
children’s director, youth pastor, executive pastor and senior
pastor.
In 1995, Dr. Walden founded a mission’s
organization, MOTE, Inc., (Ministry On The Edge) which is a
non-profit 501(C)(3). MOTE has established, sustained and
expanded evangelical programs in California,
Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
MOTE’s Christ-centered collaborative ministries within secular
institutions are leading edge and models in the
San Diego areas; Baja, Mexico
regions; and in the nation of the Dominican Republic. (1) Prison
Ministry: La Mesa Prison in Tijuana, the La Victoria Prison in the
D. R., (2) Inner-city ministries serving the homeless and needy in
downtown San Diego, (3) Faith-based after school homework club
programs in public schools systems and (4) Chaplaincy programs to
educate and place Christians within secular healthcare settings.
In addition to Dr Walden’s responsibilities as
MOTE’s CEO, he is an adjunct professor at Bethel University &
Seminary; an author and lecturer.
Dr. Walden served as the RB/Poway Clergy
Chairperson from 1998 to 2003 and is currently the co-chair. He is
on the Board of Directors for the Safety Wellness Advocacy Coalition
serving the RB/Poway communities and is a San Diego Sheriff
Chaplain. Walden also served as staff director of chaplaincy for
PPH, Inc., California's largest healthcare district at the Pomerado
Hospital in Poway, California from 1997 to 2008.
Dr. Walden and his wife Sandee have recently
transitioned to full-time missionaries and are relocating to the
Dominican Republic where they will focus primarily on MOTE's
ministries in the Dominican Republic.
