Coming
Alongside La Victoria Prison
November 6, 2007
"Now to him
who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,
according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the
church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations for ever and ever!
Amen."
(Ephesians 3:20)
A couple of days ago a report was sent
out regarding the devastating affects that hurricane Noel had on La
Victoria prison in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and our plea
for help. Inside La Victoria Prison there are fourteen smaller
prisons, and inside each of the smaller prisons is a church.
In the flood of Hurricane Noel, all fourteen churches lost their
dwelling, Bibles and teaching materials. To those of you that
responded to our plea for urgent assistance we give our sincere
thanks. There is still much to do to reach out to these
prisons.
For the past year MOTE has come
alongside La Victoria Prison by providing a Christian faith-based
training program focusing on inmate rehabilitation and reformation.
Chappy Dave has taught two seminars of this four-part series training
hundreds of pastors on effective evangelism, discipleship,
rehabilitation and equipping local churches both inside and outside the
prison walls.
On December 2nd, part three of
this seminar series will take place and we are anticipating record
breaking attendance of nearly 900 pastors. Through this seminar, Chappy
Dave will be encouraging pastors and their congregations to collaborate
with the government in the rehabilitation of inmates. Chappy will be
training local churches outside the prison walls to utilize their skills
and gifts by providing vocational education to the inmates inside the
prison walls.
This segment of the training
program is critical, as it will prepare the local Christian community
for the final series next year where local churches will actively join
forces with the government and this pilot program will be launched. The
local Christian community and government will be have the necessary
tools to effectively rehabilitate and reform inmates by preparing them
to be productive members of society by training them to be good workers,
husbands, wives, parents . . . and followers of Jesus, thus eliminating
the revolving prison door where inmates keep finding their way back
inside.
Please join us in prayer as we
continue to come alongside local churches in Dominican Republic and La
Victoria Prison for this very important mission that will not only
transform this generation, but generations to come. MOTE could have
easily withdrawn from this effort because of the wrath of hurricane
Noel. But this is not a time to withdraw, this is a time to rally
together, encourage one another, and unite together. This is a time to
reach out - now.
The floods may have washed away
material possessions in La Victoria, but it has also provided a
wonderful opportunity for us to reach out in love. An opportunity to
provide a warm blanket, a clean pair of socks, a coat . . . to Him be glory
in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations for ever
and ever!
MOTE is still accepting donations
to help rebuild the churches inside the prison, and to train the local
churches outside the prison. We invite you again to help today!
Donations can be sent to MOTE at P.O. Box 27645, San Diego, CA 92128
or you can give online through our secure donation center at
