Dr. David Walden Receives Honorary
Service Award from Palomar Council PTA
San Diego,
June 2, 2009
Dr. Walden, Founder and Executive Director of MOTE
International (Ministries
On The Edge) was nominated to the Palomar Council PTA
committee as an individual who has made significant contributions
that positively impacted the lives of children, youth and families
in the community. The Palomar Council PTA honorees were celebrated
at their Annual Breakfast meeting on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the
Rancho Bernardo Country Club in Rancho Bernardo, CA. Dr. Walden was
presented the award during the annual breakfast. As he received the
award, Dr. Walden said,
“I am
honored and humbled by this award. It is the hundreds of volunteers
who serve in the MOTE programs that deserve this as much or more
than I. It is a privilege to serve the communities, families, and
children as all of you do so very well.”
Rebecca Hernandez, a
friend of MOTE’s, nominated Dr. Walden for this prestigious award
because of the significant impact he has made throughout the
community by instituting sustainable after school homework clubs
that have supported underserved families within the
Poway
Unified
School District,
as well as his service for many years on the board for the Safety
Wellness Advocacy Community Coalition. MOTE’s Christ-Centered
ministry has built a successful nine-year collaboration within
Poway
Unified
School District.
In 2006 Dr. Walden created “Wipe Out” – an
inspirational program focused on past challenges in his life and a
current and relevant message to persevere in attaining individual
life goals while striving to serve others. This program is targeted
toward teens and young adults in our local community in an effort to
keep them from “wiping out” and instead live the life that our Lord
intends for them live. Dr. Walden also served as Director of
Pastoral Care within the Palomar Pomerado Hospital Health District,
developing an ideal faith partnership with the public health sector.
Dr. Walden’s work goes well beyond our local
community, crossing international borders and breaking down barriers
along the way. Walden has worked over many years to serve American
Prisoners in Mexico’s
infamous La Mesa Prison and has been successful in the international
development of the first Christ-centered collaboration within the
Dominican Republic Prison System to integrate model education
programs and services to inmates and their families. He has
developed instruction materials and training programs in
collaboration with the local government and Christian communities to
institute a systems change. His current work is to mobilize
Dominican Republic Community Members in building transitional
housing for former prisoners and their families.
