Taking a Deep Breath

chappy

The end of summer has arrived and here we are taking a deep breath before it starts all over again. I do not know about you, but as for me and my house, we have been poured out like a drink offering! What a whirlwind for the ministry of MOTE USA and our international organization, Fundacion MOTE Dominicana. MOTE has received awards, the HomeWorkClub and prison ministries are thriving and expanding, new programs are beginning, Sandee and I are in full transition mode headed for the Dominican Republic and we are pressing on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called us in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14).

I pray that you are blessed as you read the exciting reports from MOTE’s mission field and are moved to join us in whatever way you can as we change lives for Christ
one man, one woman, one child, one family, and one community at a time.

After School HomeWorkClub Begins 10th Successful Year

fest
FEST (Families Eating Supper Together) Event at Valley Elementary School.

This past June we completed our ninth successful year of MOTE's faith “in Christ” based After School HomeWorkClub. This character based full service program runs five days a week from 2:00-6:00pm on school campus at no cost to needy families. The cost for MOTE to operate this program comes from donors, local churches and honorariums from Chappy Dave’s speaking engagements.

August 5th
our tenth year of HomeWorkClub was launched with over 100 children being served. In addition to our 2-6pm afternoon ministry, the Poway Unified School District has asked MOTE to begin an early morning program from 6:30-8:00am to assist needy families who have jobs but cannot afford childcare before school begins. Once again MOTE has stepped up to the plate. That means we need additional support to provide the needed snacks and materials to

sustain this for the entire year. We are honored that the school district has such confidence in our faith
“in Christ” based programs. The cost to operate these programs is dependant upon your gifts. Thank you for supporting this local mission that reaches families for Christ.

Chappy Dave Receives Award from School District

Serving the community through Christian service in local missions is MOTE’s devotion. Equipping, edifying and strengthening believers in their faith by  sending followers of Christ from many churches to these public schools is what MOTE's transformational development programs are all about.

On May 21, 2009, the Poway Unified School District and its leaders acknowledged MOTE's effective methods of connecting the faith community with the secular to reach the common goal of healthy families and a healthy community. The confirmation of MOTE's accomplishment was the presentation of an Honorary Service Award. Upon receiving the award, Chappy shared, “I am honored and humbled by this award. It is the hundreds of volunteers who serve in the MOTE programs that deserve this as much or more than I. It is a privilege to serve the communities, families, and children as all of you do so very well.”

MOTE's First Short-Term Missions Trip

Betty Ann Wilkinson devotes herself to teaching the children about Jesus.

In July we had our very first short-term missions trip to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. A great adventure was had by all. MOTE and its leadership teams from San Diego and in the Santo Domingo areas worked very hard to facilitate its first large group with members coming from across America and into the rurals of the Dominican Republic. We ministered to the poorest of children imaginable in Santa Rosa where our plan was to have a Vacation Bible School with 80 children. The Lord blessed us with 225 children that came from the jungle and the shacks scattered on the hills of Santa Rosa. The servants of Jesus went the extra mile to love on and teach the children and their parents about Jesus. It was a life changing experience for the people of Santa Rosa and for the MOTE servant traveler. The days with the children were even more rewarding as the churches and MOTE mission travelers raised funds to build the new school house.

Hundreds of children in Santa Rosa Village come to learn about Jesus.

It was a joy to see the mission group from San Diego participate and serve in MOTE’s Caribbean HomeWorkClub. The call to serve the family and to reach the children and keep them from becoming “the prisoner” is Chappy Dave’s passion. The children’s program is located twenty five miles outside of Santo Domingo in the remote village of Santa Rosa. MOTE has named the new school and community outreach project, “Santa Rosa Christian Community Center”. The first floor has been completed, and as funds are raised we will build the second floor for additional classrooms. Please join us in this good work, and if you are able, consider a trip with Chappy and Sandee to this beautiful part of the world.

Prison Ministry

Ministry team enters La Victoria prison to share the love of Jesus with inmates.

MOTE’s first group to Dominican Republic also included ministry in the La Victoria prison. Ministry On The Edge takes on meaning within the confines of foreign prisons. Safety was the primary concern and all the security was with us as we entered into through the gates of hell where MOTE’s ministry team is used powerfully to share the light of Christ through evangelism, discipleship and education programs now going into its third year.

The Mission Group

The mission group was blessed to have Debra Casey, an RN with many credentials behind her name; but most importantly the Holy Spirit within her life. Debra is a devoted Christian woman who assisted MOTE in a medial clinic in the poorest region of Boca Chica. She and a local doctor, whom MOTE works with, Dr. Paula Rodriquez, set up a clinic in a 15’x12’ shack.  Only God could have organized this group in developing such an efficient triage!  Four hundred people were served including children! And, of course, Chappy Dave and a few of the brave souls held a Vacation Bible School with about two hundred kids for three hours – whew!

MOTE’s first group mission trip, the children ministry at Santa Rosa, the prison ministry at La Victoria, the medical clinic and a cultural tour in the old colonial zone was “life on the edge.” We hope to have testimonials from the team posted on our website soon.

Our next short-term mission trip scheduled early 2010 will be a life changing experience for many. Please contact us or email us for details.

Clean Heart-Clean Environment

Chappy Dave and the Director General receive award for their success.

While in Santo Domingo, the mission team participated in ground breaking ceremony at the prison for the MOTE farm project. This project is called “Clean Heart – Clean Environment”, or in Spanish, Limpio Corazón–Ambiente Limpio.

The Director General of the country, his staff, the national media and members of many local churches watched as Chappy Dave and the Director General stood side by side sharing the vision and confirming the plans for the “New Model” for the Dominican Republic Prisons. It was a special event day for everyone. A plaque was given by the Director General to Chappy Dave and MOTE for their work and successes within La Victoria, Dominican Republics largest and most violent prison.

Prison Ministry in Mexico

lamesa

Ministry team prepares to bring the Gospel at La Mesa prison in Tijuana.

MOTE’s Prison Ministry in Mexico including La Mesa Prison in Tijuana and the new work in the Ensenada State prison in Baja’s resort town of Ensenada is in its 16th year of serving our American and other English speaking nationalities. The men and women in these two violent places are desperate and in great need.

Praise God for the faithful Christian servants from churches in the San Diego area, particularly, Rancho Bernardo Baptist Church (RBBC) and its pastor, Dr. Dan and his wife Sharon Maxton. Their leadership and calling to send their body into places like La Mesa is a testimony of God’s faithfulness.

The women in La Mesa are being served faithfully by the women from RBBC. They serve every Thursday bringing the Gospel message, the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and the comfort and love of Christ to over thirty women each week.

The men in La Mesa have been blessed by the servants, Joe Preston, Doug Maltman, Pastor Dan and several others who minister each week with the Word, through the teaching of the Community Bible Study program led by Ken Gerard. Chappy Dave was given the privilege to start this good work years ago. Now, as Chappy is being called to the mission field in the Dominican Republic with his wife Sandee, he can leave knowing that the church that the Lord started is stronger than it ever was in the midst of trials that this violent La Mesa prison experiences each month.

Please continue to pray and financially support this important work in caring for many of our Americans who are incarcerated in Tijuana’s and in Ensenada state prison.

Chappy Dave ministers to inmates at La Victoria prison.

Chappy Dave and Sandee Walden recently returned from the Dominican Republic, a five day intensive week of meetings with prison pastors, the Director General’s staff, the children’s mission leader at Santa Rosa as well as making housing arrangements for their move to the Dominican Republic in November.

Plans for MOTE’s  sixth national conference coming up in January of 2010 were made as well as coordinating the ministry plans with the local churches in the Santo Domingo region – nearly 700 have attended one or more of the MOTE conferences and workshops since early 2007.

There is so much to be thankful for during this season of change. God is good all the time. He never changes. “He who began a good work is faithful to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

This next quarter (October through December) Chappy and Sandee will be leaving San Diego and will make their home in the Dominican Republic where the Lord has called them to minister for the next three years.

It is Chappy and Sandee’s hope to be able to travel to San Diego every eight to ten weeks as funding for air travel is made available.

Chappy will continue to oversee MOTE USA as its founder and president from the Dominican Republic.

He will need to return regularly to meet with the Board and to raise support for the mission work as well as support so that he and Sandee can continue to be full time missionaries in both the United States and in the Dominican Republic.

Please help by sending in your support to MOTE, Inc. at 17150 Via Del Campo Court, Suite 102, San Diego, CA 92127. You can also donate to MOTE online at http://www.mote.ws/giving/giving.htm.
