MOTE Receives Green Light for it’s Christ Centered Program for Prisoner
Rehabilitation within the Country of the Dominican Republic
San Diego California, April 2, 2008
On March 28, 2008, Dr. David Walden, "Chappy Dave", and the National
Association of Prison Churches of the Dominican Republic (ANDIP)
concluded its year-long effort of meetings and proposals with the
government offices of the Dominican Republic's Attorney General. The
Procurador General Adjunto, Lic. Moises A. Ferrer L, recommended on this
final meeting that MOTE and ANDIP go forward on the MOTE Prison
Rehabilitation Program.
Mr. Ferrer sent MOTE and ANDIP in the afternoon to meet with the
Director General of Prisons. The Director of Social Services, Dr.
Francisco L. Cardenas, who oversees all twenty-three prisons in the
country, met with Dr. David “Chappy” Walden of MOTE, Inc. and the
Executive Board of ANDIP. The afternoon meeting concluded with all
parties agreeing to move forward.
The office of department of prisons provided MOTE/ANDIP its letter of
understanding which ended in these words, "to you our gratitude . . . and to
tell you that we are very pleased to have your support.”
The letter was signed by Dr. Cardenas of the office of the “Direccion
General de Prisiones", dated March 28, 2008.
On Monday, March 31, at 10:00 am, at the Director of Prisons Offices,
the first implementation meeting was set with ANDIP and the leaders from
Dr. Cardenas department. The MOTE Christ Centered Prison
Program is moving with the Authority of God!
Chappy Dave said,
"March 28, 2008,
was a day of victory for the prisoners in the Dominican Republic as we
remember and suffer with them." "Remember those in prison as if you were
their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you
yourselves were suffering." (Hebrews 13:3) "The Lord laid the vision of
this day upon my heart more than a year ago. I am blessed as I have
witnessed God's hand upon this ministry. In Santo Domingo, hundreds of
pastors (both inside and outside the prison walls) have been trained,
the community and local churches are involved and ready to witness and
disciple, the local professional community is helping, and the
government has partnered with us. But what gets me really excited are
the thousands of inmates who will learn of this program who are not
attending church, but will be! The Gospel is going to reach these men in
a mighty way. The many inmates in the prison churches are anxious for
the new opportunities and positive changes that are on their horizon,"
exclaims Chappy.
MOTE’s goal is to
raise $75,000 to complement ANDIP’s contribution toward this ministry.
MOTE’s portion will cover five years of expenses including housing for
the first 250 inmates selected to participate in this program, materials
and operating costs for the training and rehabilitation program, and
provide computer and communication equipment for the leaders in Santo
Domingo.
